Actor of the Week: Olivia Wilde

Here we have it, our new Actor of the Week. They seem to come round faster each week! The actor, or should I say actress, who is taking up the mantle this week is none of than Olivia Wilde. Born 10th March 1983 in New York City, Wilde was an easy choice for this section of our website. Olivia Wilde is a great example of a rising star. Someone you would have undoubtedly seen early in her career but may not have recognised that it was her until you watched it again today, with her now being a well accomplished actress.

I remember the first time I saw Wilde, it was her performance as ‘Alex Kelly’, the skater come indie chick in the hit TV series The O.C. where she played a manager of a bar which one of the lead characters, Seth, ends up dating. Even though Olivia Wilde wasn't in the show from beginning to end she did have a fairly big chunk in the series.

Wilde then moved on to bigger things within the TV world as well as really breaking into the movie industry (unless you count her very small part in The Girl Next Door as her breakthrough). We saw her star in films like Alpha Dog which was one of Justin Timberlake's first acting roles, Bobby Z starring Paul Walker and Year One, a comedy featuring Jack Black and Michael Cera. She then got her big opportunity to play the supporting lead in Disney’s Tron: Legacy. Even though this film was sadly not very well received, it certainly put Olivia on the map.

Our star continued to rise whilst maintaining her interest for TV as well as film, starring alongside Hugh Laurie in the critically acclaimed TV show House, which is an incredible show, one I recommend anyone reading this to watch. Not only did she stick to TV she also gained a lot of respect in the movie industry at this point, starring in Cow Boys & Aliens, a Jon Favreau film featuring Daniel Craig, as well as continuing her comedy skills in films like The Change Up and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, where she holds her own alongside comedy legends Steve Carell and Jim Carey. All these pictures really do show how diverse Olivia Wilde is as an actress.

My favourite film she has starred in, is the true story based on two legendary F1 racers, Rush. Where she played Suzy Miller, the wife of James Hunt, played by Chris Hemsworth. This movie was directed by Ron Howard, and was fantastically executed.

After reading all this you would think Olivia Wilde has done pretty well for herself, but she did not stop there, as she has now got her foot into the modelling industry, being the face for Revlon, as well as doing so much charity work, which she is pushing everyday to make the world a better place. This is all shown in countless times, if it’s not appearing at many charity events, it’s being a board member of Artists of Peace. Wilde is rapidly becoming a true inspiration for all women, if she isn’t one already. On top of all this she is a mother of 2 and married to Jason Sudeikis, who is best known for his role as ‘Kurt Buckman’ in Horrible Bosses.

There is plenty more to cover when it comes to Olivia Wilde, but I think the above clearly tells you why we have picked her as our Actor of the Week. She is an incredible actress who just keeps getting better and better with everything she does, and a true inspiration for women around the world.
